Philosophy of Fragrance (III)
III. Deconstructing Fragrance
1. **Familiarity of “Sweet, Warm, and Rich”**
– Top notes: Unlike the bitterness of ordinary agarwood, Kynam immediately presents a sweet and rich base reminiscent of candied dates, mixed with a hint of spiciness from Omani
frankincense, like the sweet-scented dates shared by desert caravans under the moonlight,
instantly awakening memories on the tongue.
– Middle notes: The core fragrance blends the resin of Lebanese cedar and the Arabian gum
tree, enriched with the richness of Saharan honey, akin to the ‘Muttawa’ spice tea brewed by
Bedouins in copper pots, where the warm sweetness carries the depth of time.
– Base notes: The lingering scent is as long-lasting as Arabian oud essential oil but
softer—three days later, the residual frankincense on clothing is reminiscent of the scent of the
Kaaba that pilgrims in white robes carry, sacred and irreplaceable.
